In the course of 12 hours, two semi-big improvements were made to our home. Let's just say the front of our house looks years younger, and the inside looks a little bit more like home. It's been nearly 5 years that we've been living in this house, and because it's a rental, I had hesitated in making any changes. But 5 years is long enough.
It's hard to see as much of the improvement in the pictures as it is in real-life, but I figure it's better than nothing.
This is as good of a before-shot as I could got... I was a little late with the camera. Nick had taken out about half of the bushes. They were straight NASTY.

The results: Of course these plants need to grow and create a little more height. In the back are 3 Lantana (a flower that's a combination of reds and oranges) that will grow to be 2+ feet tall. I tried to mostly buy perennials so I could count on more of a garden next year. I also planted Sea Thrift, a few Dahlias, Calibrachoa, and some Sun Daisies.

Our ceilings are curved. So instead of creating a edge near the top of the wall, I decided to simply create a line about 18 inches below the ceiling. I'm very happy with the result. In order to get a completely straight line (with no bleeding through the tape), I painted white up into the paint.
The white paint.

The color is slate. A warm green/blue/grey slate. I'm a big fan of the color.

Nice! I can't wait to see it! Did you have to ask the landlord or are you going with the better to ask for forgiveness than permission theory?
The short of it: when we first moved in, we asked and were told we'd have to paint it back. In my mind we could possibly be moving, and it didn't seem worth it.
Then, we recently saw a neighbor's apt. that they had moved out of... and had painted a couple walls without re-painting it. That was the point that I decided we should paint!
So glad we (finally!) did it!
Yeah! I remember talking to you about painting that wall years ago and debating what to do with the curve... great idea with the line. It looks fabulous. I love your little garden too. There is something about having painted walls that really makes a place feel like home.
looks like the nesting urge is coming a little early! I love how everyone in the family is into the home improvement. Great pictures! Thanks for sharing.LYTB!
Looks great julie!!!
Looks great! It's always nice to have color on the walls :)
That looks really nice, Nick and Julie (and Eva)! I like what I can see of the color. Hard to believe it's been five years already. Enjoy your home improvements!
